Wolverine

The wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a powerful and elusive mammal known for its strength and tenacity. Despite resembling a small bear, it is actually the largest land-dwelling member of the weasel family. Wolverines typically weigh between 20 and 55 pounds, but they are capable of defending themselves against much larger predators. They have thick, dark brown fur with lighter facial markings and strong jaws designed for crushing bones.
Wolverines are solitary animals with large territories that they fiercely protect. They are opportunistic omnivores, feeding on small mammals, birds, berries, insects, and carrion. Their keen sense of smell allows them to locate food buried beneath snow, making them well adapted to harsh climates.
The natural habitat of the wolverine includes remote northern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. They prefer cold, mountainous, or boreal environments, such as tundra, taiga forests, and alpine areas. Deep snow is especially important, as it helps protect food caches and provides safe denning sites for raising young.
Wolverines thrive in undisturbed wilderness, making them sensitive to habitat loss and climate change. Their presence often indicates a healthy, intact ecosystem, highlighting their importance in the natural environment.
